Getting to Toronto and York University

By air: Toronto has two major airports (the collective IATA code is YTO):

Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ), on the western outskirts of the city, is served by Air Canada, WestJet, U.S. Airways, American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta, and a variety of intercontinental airlines. Flights to Pearson are available from all over Canada, 43 destinations in the United States, and major cities worldwide. The new Union-Pearson Express train runs to Union Station (railway and subway station/Line 1 to York University) for $12.35 one-way (or $24.70 round-trip) per adult. A taxi from Pearson to downtown Toronto costs between $50 and $75 and takes between 45 minutes and an hour (Note that to York University the cost is slightly lower and duration about 15 minutes less). Public transportation (TTC) is also an option. Cost of a one-way ticket (ask for a ‘transfer ticket’ if you need to change rides): it costs $3.25 (exact cash): take the 192 Airport Rocket bus to the Kipling subway station, transfer (for free with ticket) onto the Bloor-Danforth subway line, and travel east to St George station (downtown) where you would transfer again to Line 1 and take the subway up north to York University. This combined trip typically takes between 80 and 120 minutes, depending primarily on how frequently the buses are running.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) (also known as the City Centre Airport) is located in downtown Toronto. The airport is served primarily by Porter Airlines, which flies here from a handful of cities across Ontario, Québec, the Atlantic Provinces, and the eastern United States. Air Canada also provides a connection to Montréal. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport currently provides free shuttle service to the Royal York Hotel, across the street from Union Station (railway and subway station/Line 1 to York University).

By train: Toronto is well-connected to railway routes. VIA Rail offers direct links to Montréal, Ottawa, Sarnia, Windsor, Niagara Falls, and various points in between. Amtrak's daily Maple Leaf service originates in New York City and travels through upstate New York and around Lake Ontario to Toronto. Union Station is in the centre of the city and contains a subway station (Line 1 to York University). Taxis from Union Station are available along Front Street West.

By bus: Greyhound offers routes leading in every direction, including into the United States. A second service, Megabus, travels to/from Montréal, Kingston, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and a handful of smaller towns; its fares are cheap for early bookings. The Toronto Coach Terminal is located in the city centre, on Bay Street between two subway stations on Line 1 to York University.

Note that the following link takes you to more information about how to get to York University by public transit (TTC) etc. It also has various maps of Keele campus: http://maps.info.yorku.ca/keele-campus/

Word of caution: Buses no longer serve the campus and, if taking public transit, you should take the subway, Line 1, to York University station.
